How To Keep Your Holiday Home Trip Fun For Children

12 May 2022 | News

Lets face it, children can be quite a challenge to keep entertained on a family get away. How do you prevent your children from succumbing to boredom whilst you should be enjoying the break you have worked hard for all year? Here is some great advice to take on board when embarking on your next holiday home trip.

Plan ahead

One of, if not the most important factor to take into consideration when ensuring your holiday home trip is one to remember, is to plan ahead and to be very organised. You want to make the most out of the time available to you, the last thing you want is to be stuck looking for things to do, or driving back home because you have forgotten something. Being organised will also help reduce stress levels, meaning you will enjoy yourself more, which should rub off on your children. How are your children supposed to enjoy their holiday, if you are stressed because you haven’t been organised?

Organisation can come in the form of daily itineraries, have a look at the area prior to your visit to find out what activities and attractions there are for your children to enjoy. Create a plan of which places you are going to visit, and on which day. Don’t leave booking things until the last minute in case you end up missing out. Creating an itinerary for each day may seem extreme to some people, but again it makes sure that you get the most out of each day, with all the planning and effort done ahead of time.

Keeping them entertained (all ages)

Different aged children can be difficult to be kept entertained for many reasons. If you have children ranging in age, it is important to keep everyone happy. Older children in their teens could be typically harder to keep entertained on a family holiday, trying to keep the holiday ‘cool’ may be a challenge. There are simple things you can do to help this. If they are old enough, allow them to have their freedom to explore and enjoy themselves. Allow them to have time to themselves to make new friends at a similar age, don’t molly coddle them! It is also important to balance this with making sure you get some quality family time too. It is important to note that all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times around the park and no ball games are allowed anywhere on the park.

For the younger ones, it can be easier to keep them entertained. Bring along their favourite toys for times where you are not doing any activities and need some time to kill.  You might be tempted to bring along an ipad with some movies and games downloaded. This could be a good option to have stashed away, but be mindful that you do not want your children stuck inside staring at a screen for the entire holiday.

As we are so close to Bala lake why not look at buying or hiring some watersports equipment like a kyak or paddleboard and have a family fun day by the lake. It’s also a great opportunity to explore the town, meet some new friends and even grab an icecream!
