25 Feb 2022 | News

As the lighter evening approaches, we all know that Spring is well on its way. As we try to withhold our excitement to reopen for the year and get all our lovely holiday homeowners back there are some essential spring checks to carry out.

We have created this season-starter checklist to help you when you return.

Preparation

Preparation is key for anything you do and this includes coming back to your holiday home after a very cold winter. It is important that you check your holiday home over as soon as you arrive as well as run all your taps, hot and cold for a good few minutes to flush the system through and check for any leaks.

With the recent stormy weather we have experienced, you want to be sure that everything is in order. The park re-opens on the 1st March at 12pm. We recommend you arrive during the day so we can assist you with any problems you may face. Unfortunately, if you arrive late and it is dark we may not be able to assist you.

Some things to check for when you arrive are:

  • Windows and doors
  • Panels and seals/ seams
  • Roof, skylights and aerials
  • Gas connection, water connection, and electric lead
  • Decking and skirting (this may need repainting due to weathering)
  • Sheds or storage
  • Damage of items left outside including BBQ’s, bikes and garden furniture

Jot down a list of things that are wrong and prioritise the most important things first.

Now that’s the outside sorted – time to move inside.

Depending on the condition of the exterior you may find this has a knock on effect to the inside. Things like mildew, damp and even leaks. Make sure to check the following before settling down.

  • Surfaces and floors for signs of vermin, mildew or leaks
  • Doors and windows, including seals, hinges, handles and locks
  • Walls and ceilings – don’t forget the corners!
  • Vents and skylights
  • Inside cupboards, drawers, and the fridge
  • Seals including in kitchen, bathroom, around windows and doors
  • Hinges and handles
  • Mattresses, sofas and upholstery

Be sure to also check smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and your fire extinguisher are in good working order too.

Don’t Forget The Cleaning

Spring is renowned as the perfect time for clean hence spring clean.

Now that everything is in order you can now add all your personal touches to your home transforming it into a home away from home. Start with hoovering and mopping the floors and then move onto dusting your surfaces.

Next, put some fresh sheets on the beds and spritz your favourite scent around and put some candles on to leave your holiday home smelling and feeling lovely again.

As it has been winter and there has been some really windy weather it is likely that your windows could do with a good clean too! Let’s not forget, one of the reasons you opted for a holiday home was for that incredible view!
